As with other homes in the building, the light-filled penthouse features a windowed eat-in kitchen with marble breakfast bar, oak flooring, and a master bathroom featuring statuary book-matched marble floor and walls, and a freestanding soaking tub.
For the design, Behun references the building’s architecture — playing off its pure geometry by using asymmetrical pieces within and responding to the façade’s signature 10-foot by 10-foot square windows.
“My favorite aspect of the apartment has to be the views through those oversize windows. to have all of the Manhattan unfurl below you in this way is nothing short of extraordinary, and nothing I would do inside could ever upstage that, so I just sought to create a warm embrace from which to enjoy it.”
“there is a rigid grid to it, and I think that is what creates these beautiful volumes and these very elegant shells. however, I really wanted it to be warm, so it was about layering it in a way that felt like anyone could live here.” – says Kelly Behun.
“The views are pretty exhilarating, and I felt that as a balance you want something very soft. I tried to be very mindful of the fabrics being very tactile and the colors being things that you would see beyond. at sunset, you see deep aubergines and these rosy colors.”
