2016 was a big year for new openings and furniture design showrooms took the city with their amazing and inspiring pieces from the most selected artists, so today we are focusing in the top Furniture Shops and Showrooms that you can find in London.
Sé, whose beautiful new flagship showroom has just opened on the Fulham Road, is one of them. When Pavlo Schtakleff founded his furniture brand, almost 10 years ago, his goal was to reclaim the glamor and quality of 20th-century furniture. Like a couture house, Sé operates by inviting designers to produce collections, and since 2007 it has built a catalog of three characterful and elegant contemporary editions with Damien Langlois-Meurinne, Jaime Hayón and Nika Zupanc.
Keeping good company, alongside Christian Liaigre, Poltrona Frau and Cassina, Boffi, B&B Italia and Mint, the new 680 sq ft space sees Sé take over from David Gill and Francis Sultana – who have moved to King Street (more of that later) . The collections are complemented by Calico murals and Luke Irwin rugs, while new pieces to Nika Zupanc’s Stay range have also just been unveiled: a polished marble dining table and bench.
Earlier this summer Dutch brand Moooi opened their destination store on Great Titchfield Street, with enough space to showcase not only its signature pieces of furniture and lighting but its sizeable new adventures in new carpets and rugs, including the just-launched geometric designs by Kit Miles.
Over in Clerkenwell, BD Barcelona brings whimsical Spanish style to the historical design district with its avant-garde pieces from the likes of Ross Lovegrove, the Campana brothers, Doshi Levien and Neri & Hu. Currently showing is a retrospective of pieces produced during the company’s 10-year collaboration with Jaime Hayón.
Don’t miss Bert & May’s beautiful barge, a pop-up collaboration with Darkroom which will stay open until Christmas. Darkroom, recently forced to close their popular space on Lamb’s Conduit Street, are not to be beaten, with an instantly cult collection of playful new fabrics, encaustic tiles and a new paint color Darkroom Black. In the barge, moored on Regents Canal, the new fabrics have been used to create blinds, curtains, bedlinen, and to upholster furniture pieces.
A place where luxury brands can celebrate design together, the Covet London Design Apartment offers their guests the opportunity to spend a pleasant time at this apartment and enjoy the sophistication of exclusive design. This elegant apartment showcases iconic pieces and novelties from famous Portuguese brands such as Boca do Lobo, Delightfull, Koket, Brabbu and Maison Valentina.
